Dosti

Dosti is Dudley’s Community Empowerment Network (CEN), and Dosti means ‘friendship’ in various Asian languages.  Dosti is a network of networks. Dosti’s member networks vary in size, resource and capacity. Some are networks of Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) organisations working in a specific geographical area within the Borough, others are networks of interest or identity. Some networks are purely community and voluntary sector, others include public sector partners and local businesses. Dosti’s member networks are networks of groups, not groups of individuals.

Dosti has no formal legal status. Dudley Council for Voluntary Service (DCVS) acts as the ‘responsible body’ - in other words they administer Dosti’s funding and employ Dosti’s staff. DCVS’s Board do not have a say over Dosti’s decisions and plans, these are made by Dosti’s Executive. Dosti’s Executive is made up of 12 people elected from member networks and a member of staff from Dudley CVS to represent them in their role as Responsible Body.

Dudley Community Partnership is developing a Terms of Reference which related documents which describe the relationship between Dosti and other partners in the DCP. This will be used instead of a protocol.

Dosti currently has four representatives from their Executive on the Board of the DCP.
Dosti staff give support to community representatives on the Board of the DCP and to individuals from the community and voluntary sector who engage in DCP activities and theme partnerships.

Dosti staff also co-ordinate communications between networks and VCS groups, arrange relevant training, support member networks and manage a grants programme to stimulate activity in deprived neighbourhoods.
