There are two Operational Command Units in Dudley Borough; Dudley North (known as J1 OCU) and Dudley South (know as J2 OCU):
Dudley North (J1) OCU
Dudley North (J1) OCU’s Headquarters are the Police Station on Bank Street, Brierley Hill. The Chief Superintendent who is responsible for policing and management of the area is Keith Baldwin. North operational command unit covers the Sedgley, Dudley, Brierley Hill, Pensnett and Coseley sectors. Key priorities for the OCU during the year are to reduce violent crime, house burglaries, vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour.
J1 OCU provides 24/7 cover for emergencies reacting to immediate calls for service from members of the public. In addition to which, departments such as Criminal Investigation Department and the Public Protection Unit, provide specialist expertise.
The J1 OCU has a total of 9 community teams working with partners and local communities across the Borough to support Neighbourhood Renewal and community safety as well as crime reduction and reassurance.
Dudley South (J2) OCU
The Dudley South Operation Command Unit (J2 OCU) is based at the Halesowen Police Station, Laurel Lane, Halesowen. The Chief Superintendent is Peter Monroe.
The Dudley South OCU covers the areas of Halesowen, Lye, Stourbridge and Kingswinford.
Both OCU’s are committed to reviewing their resourcing to become aligned with the principles of the Governments new neighbourhood policing requirements.
In Dudley, the CDRP merged with the DAAT to become ‘Safe and Sound’, Dudley’s Community Safety Partnership (CSP).
Both OCU Commanders have launched a consultation exercise to allow the public a greater say in how local policing is delivered and what community safety priorities should prevail within neighbourhoods. It is intended that old police beat boundaries will be replaced by policing neighbourhood areas defined by citizens and each neighbourhood will receive a policing team made up of combinations of staff, police, PCSO’s, Special Constables and volunteers.
Structure
There are 15 neighbourhoods across the OCU, all have a dedicated neighbourhood policing team, which consists of a Sergeant, Police Constables and Police Community Support Officers. There main priorities are to increase community reassurance while talking neighbourhood issues such as anti social behaviour and general disorder.
The J2 OCU also has neighbourhood support officers who work around the clock to patrol your local area as well as attending all immediate calls by linking into our Operations department.
The J2 OCU is working closely with partner agencies to develop ways in which community engagements can be expanded and developed
