Benefits and Constraints from LSP Engagement

Benefits

Engaging with the LSP offers many benefits for Dudley MBC.  It provides a forum in which the council can interact with its key partners and gain understanding.  Working towards common goals as set out in the Community Strategy creates a sound basis upon which inter agency relationships can be developed.  The principle of ‘additionality’ can also be applied, where agencies bring their resources together they can often achieve more than when working alone.

The council’s engagement with the LSP and involvement in formulating the Community Strategy provides a clear framework around which internal plans can focus.  Dudley MBC’s Council Plan represents the authority’s contribution towards the Community Strategy.

The process of community involvement and consultation during the ‘Dudley Borough Challenge’ enabled the council to engage with residents and gain their views and needs.  The insight provided by this activity is invaluable.

The council’s involvement with the LSP is also integral to the effective fulfilment of our duties as a community leader.  Through the LSP the authority can take a lead on key issues for the development of the borough.

Constraints

The policy of Dudley MBC is to support and contribute to the activity of Dudley Community Partnership wherever possible.  However because the council is separately accountable to central government for a wide range of services those need to remain a priority notwithstanding our commitment to partnership working.
