I am responding to this in a personal capacity as a community development and regeneration professional - the views expressed by me are not necessarily those of my employing organisation. It seems to me that we have forgotten the real people that are doing big society every day and being supported to do it by community teams in the public sector. Whilst the voluntary sector big players and theme groups also have a role to play they must not crowd out the community/ local people in neighbourhoods. There are some fabulous community initiatives going on at neighbourhood level in Dudley aimed at galvanising and enabling local action - the DCP is ignoring this because of the way in which its representation is structured through CVS. So please take a look at what’s going on ...There must be a balance between neighbourhoods and theme working and a shared approach and please stop all this talk about leading- its being done together and people need to lead themselves. The office for civil society, CLG, are of one voice on this and the localism bill will really define it.
